After the death of my beloved cat Sonoma in 2013, I struggled between wanting to get a new cat right away and never wanting another cat again. As the weeks turned into months turned into years, I began to think that maybe it would be the later, but then earlier this year my oldest daughter had a trip to the humane society with her scout troop. It had been over 2 years since Sonomas death, and I finally felt ready. The kids were more than ready.
When we toured the facility, I noticed a kitten in one of the upper cages. As the kids walked through the corridor, she walked right up to the glass and looked down at them, but being so high, none of the girls noticed her. After the tour was over I asked if we could meet her and it was love. We adopted her that day and brought her home the next day. With no further adieu, I’m thrilled to introduce you to the newest member of our family – Cupcake!
Okay, so she’s napping right now, but if I’m being totally honest, this is how she spends a lot of her time. How does she manage to look so contorted and so comfy at the same time? I’ll never know…
Over the past few months, we’ve slowly been adjusting back to being a household with 4 extra paws. Our newest addition gets into absolutely everything. Besides being adorable, she’s the epitome of a curious kitten – batting her toys across our living room floor and gazing at lizards outside for hours. She loves staying up all night and napping much of the day, and don’t you dare leave a water glass unattended or she’s sure to have a sip. We may be veteran cat owners, but these are all things I’d forgotten in the past few years.
The one thing I didn’t forget was what to feed. After leaving our first vet’s appointment we were provided with a pouch of IAMSTM, and we’ve been using it ever since. Why feed IAMSTM? It’s easy – we’re making healthier changes in our own diets, so it only makes sense that we’d do the same for our pets. IAMSTM foods include fatty acids from fish oils, which promote excellent skin and coat health. Beet pulp is add to IAMSTM to help cats maintain intestinal health and aid in their ability to absorb nutrients. And IAMSTM customized mix of protein and carbs contribute to healthy energy levels in cats. It even comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I know I feel better now that we’re eating healthier, so I want my pet to feel better and healthier too. After all, a healthy cat is a visibly happy cat!
Best of all, I can pick up IAMSTM at my local Walmart while I’m doing the rest of my grocery shopping. No specialty store visit, just a quick wander down the pet aisle and my shopping for Cupcake is done!
Since I want to keep Cupcake on the path to good health, I’m using this Printable Pet Planner, designed to keep all of her records and health information in one place. It’s easy to put together and and will help tremendously when going to the vet or leaving her with a pet sitter in the future. It’s so easy to make, and I’m including all of the printables in the instructions below so you can make one too!
You will need:
Printable Pet Planner
Paper
Hole punch
3 Prong folder with pockets
Pen
Glue stick
Step 1 – Print out the printable pet planner pages. Glue the “My Pet Planner” page on to the front of the 3 prong folder. If you have more than one pet, include your pet’s name on the front or use different color folders for each pet.
Step 2 – Arrange the remaining pages as you’d like them to be in the book. I put the “My Pet’s Information” page first, but you might want to put the “Weekly Planner” page first if you plan to use a pet sitter often.
Step 3 – Punch holes in the side of the printed planner pages and insert into the folder. Secure the prongs and fill in all health information.
Step 4 – Place any important additional documents you’d like to keep in the pockets. The folder pockets are a great place for adoption paperwork, receipts, or extra planner pages.

That pet planner is genius. I tell you, especially with so many people in the house, we never know if someone fed the cats or not. That is awesome. Thanks for sharing
I could use this kind of organization with my pets! One would always think the other feed the dog so this would be perfect for that!
While I’m not a pet owner I definitely did keep track of my newborns eating schedule and often track my food when I’m trying to get back on track. This is such a great way to make a good habit stick. #client
I haven’t tried Iams but am thinking of changing my cat’s food. I only want what is best for her. I like the idea of keeping a pet planner.
