Is it Friday yet?” That’s the phrase I’ve been saying since Monday at 8:50am, as I was scooping dog food I’d spilled off the kitchen floor while on the phone with my paralegal who was in the process of informing me that my 2:00pm appointment was there for our meeting. While my client was quite sure our meeting was set for 9am, I was absolutely certain it was not. I was also at least 40 minutes away. Just a few hours into the week and things already weren’t going as planned.
And that one incident on Monday morning was far from the last of the curve balls that have been thrown at me this week. Add in forgotten backpacks, a last minute book report, and a lost class t-shirt and you get a taste of what my week has been like, including a call this morning from my daughter’s school nurse letting me know that the child I had just dropped off at school an hour before was now complaining of ear pain. Just another example of how quickly “fine” can go to “not fine” when you have kids.
The school nurse assured me that it was probably minor, but suggested I drop off medicine. So I dropped everything, ran to the nearest store, picked up medicine, and ended up administering it to my oldest daughter in the school office. Crisis averted, but not quite what I had planned for my Thursday morning. Not by a long shot.
So when I saw this video earlier this week, I could more than relate:
Because we all have dreams right? Dreams where dinner is perfect, there’s plenty of “me” time, faucets fill wine glasses liberally…and kids are healthy. But as much as we may dream, sometimes we get quite the opposite. We get thrown together dinners decided at the last minute, little or no personal space, no time for wine let alone a faucet dedicated to it, and sick kids. These are just facts of life…mom life. And during those not so perfect, “Sick just got real.™” moments, I run for medications that I know will help my kids feel better – Infant’s Advil®, Children’s Advil®, Children’s Robitussin®, and Children’s Dimetapp®.
Summer is on it’s way, but rest assured, sickness is still out there. And while the ear pain in our house seems to have resolved (for now), I’m staying stocked up on my Infant’s Advil®, Children’s Advil®, Children’s Robitussin®, and Children’s Dimetapp® products. I won’t get caught unprepared again.
Want to win a gift card to to pick up some Infant’s Advil®, Children’s Advil®, Children’s Robitussin®, and Children’s Dimetapp® for those “Sick just got real.™” moments in your house?
