Spring officially started a little over a week ago, but it feels much more like summer where I live. We’ve been in the eighties all week and we’re looking at a high of 91 tomorrow. Ninety one! Even I can’t believe it! Summer always arrives earlier (and stays longer) here in South Florida than other places in the country, but this year must be a new record.
As I looked down at the temperature gauge in my car and saw the high double digit temperatures earlier this week, my mind wandered to summer camp for the girls, long days at the pool as a family, and when to schedule our beach vacation to the West Coast of Florida…only to remember how much sunscreen I need to invest in this year. And not just for the kids, but for me too. I’m going to be out in the sun a lot this summer, and sunscreen and skin products are an absolute must. But when it comes to my skin, it can’t just be sunscreen. I need more to keep my skin healthy during the summer. Here are my summer skin essentials and how I get my skin ready for the relentless summer heat:
Facial Cleansers – For me, cleansers are the first step and an absolute must! With intense humidity and lots of extra time outside, pores are bound to get clogged with dirt, sweat, and other not so pleasant things. Instead of reaching for that bath soap that strips skin of natural oils that your body needs, try cleansers like CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. For skin that tends to be on the drier side, stick with a cleanser that moisturizes at the same time, like CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, which removes dirt, oil and makeup as ceramides and hyaluronic acid moisturize, soften, and help repair the skin barrier. Luckily both of these cleansers are on roll back right now at Walmart for just $9.97 until 5/9/16, so you can try them both and see which works better for your skin.
Moisturizer – Once I’ve removed all the dirt and grime, it’s time to moisturize. This step is essential. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream (also on rollback for just $9.97 until 5/9/16!) moisturizes skin and helps restore the protective skin barrier, with vital ceramides. While you can use CeraVe Moisurizing Cream anywhere on your body, CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion provides the additional broad spectrum sun protection that you need during the summer, so it’s best to use both. Best part is that you don’t need of the CeraVe AM to make a huge difference in the look of your skin. I’m also a huge fan of the PM Moisturizer.
Sunscreen – Sunscreen is a daily part of my routine here as a South Florida mom and one of my personal favorites is CeraVe Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 50 because it’s so lightweight. Besides providing broad spectrum sun protection, along with all the other CeraVe skin products, helps replenish the vital ceramides healthy skin needs and is non-irritating and fragrance-free. Most CeraVe produces are also non-comedogenic.
You can put this one on as part of your daily routine, like I do, and then throw it in your beach or pool bag to apply as needed when your out by the pool. It’s even water resistant for up to 40 minutes! Just keep in mind that it might be in your Walmart’s sunscreen section as opposed to the skin care section where you’ll find the other CeraVe products.
Hats & Sunglasses – In addition to great skin care products, try protecting your skin from the outside using hats and glasses. These easy to take along items can prevent lines and wrinkles and make you a lot more comfortable on a hot, sunny day.
Water – This fifth and final step can’t be forgotten! Healthy skin relies good hydration, and let’s face it, it’s easy to get dehydrated when you’re outside with your kids all day at the park, amusement park, or even just running errands. Remember to work in eight 8-oz glasses of water each day. If it helps, keep a visual tally of how much your drinking each day by filling up a day’s worth of water bottles in advance or keeping a chart to check off how much water you’re drinking.
If you’re looking to get your skin ready for summer be sure to check out the skin care aisle at your local Walmart. And don’t forget to use this coupon for $2 off any CeraVe product!
