Yesterday my daughter greeted me at the door with big news…she had just finished her one hundredth book of the school year. Yes, you read that right – one hundredth book! It was all part of a quest to receive the Superintendent’s Honor Roll for the second year in a row. I couldn’t be prouder. And honestly, it’s not about the sheer volume of books that she’s read, it’s that she set a goal and stuck to it even when I wasn’t there to remind her. She even kept her own list of all the books that she read along the way. And the title appearing the most on her list of books completed? Amelia Bedelia, of course!
That’s right, the same Amelia Bedelia books that I loved when I was a kid have become some of my daughter’s favorites as well. I guess there’s just something about that fun loving and quite literal girl that just makes you fall in love. And now there are more Amelia Bedelia books than ever before, ranging from first readers to easy readers to chapter books, so kids of all levels can enjoy her comical endeavors.
If you’re little one is an Amelia Bedelia fan like mine, you’ll be thrilled to hear that from now through May 12th, Ryan’s®, HomeTown® Buffet, Old Country Buffet® and Country Buffet® are hosting Family Nights at participating locations. Kids simply meet up in the designated activity area to led by an adult staff member in fun-filled Amelia Bedelia experience, while parents enjoy a quiet meal or join along with their child. Along with each weekly event, children will also receive “fun sheets” that relate back to each night’s theme. Best of all, these activities are absolutely free and kids eat for the discounted rate of $1.99 (2 kids meals at $1.99 for each regularly priced adult entree purchased)! That’s right, you get to eat in peace while your child is fed at a discounted rate and entertained. That’s a win/win/win if you ask me! There’s even a sweepstakes that families can enter to win a 7-day Caribbean cruise for four, including air transportation.
Upcoming theme nights include:
- March 31 – “Spring Selfie” is a great social media photo-booth-style experience the whole family can take part in. Frames, decorations, and mini props will be provided at each location.
- April 7 – “Bake Off!” gets children into the wholesome fun of cooking by baking one of Amelia Bedelia’s favorites – classic Apple Pie.
- April 14 – “Recipes Done Right” helps kids see how important it is to follow instructions – especially when baking – with a fun ‘scramble’ game to see which team can re-create certain recipes.
- April 21 – “Fly a Kite” celebrates one of Springtime’s most popular activities by coloring and assembling a miniature kite for flying or decorating their rooms
- April 28 – “Dream Pie” invites children to explore their imaginations and their appetites with a colorful design-your-own pie creation to share with the group
- May 5 – “The Power of Words That Help Out” features Amelia Bedelia and her silly mix-ups of common phrases as kids discover the multiple meanings of words and phrases during a Simon-Says-style game.
- May 12 – “Magic Words” highlights Amelia Bedelia once again – but this time showing how words can make a difference through manners and also through magic – with multiple magical demonstrations kids can recreate at home.
Can’t wait for the next theme night? Me either. So how about we start the Amelia Bedelia fun right here on my blog with a great giveaway? One lucky reader is going to receive an Amelia Bedelia Prize Pack including 4 great titles: Amelia Bedelia’s First Apple Pie, Amelia Bedelia Makes a Friend, Amelia Bedelia, and Amelia Bedelia Means Business. I hope your child loves them as much as my kids do. Enter using the rafflecopter form below and they could be yours! Good luck!
