This is a sponsored post written on behalf of Scholastic. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
We are on a mission in my house – 100 books by March 30th. Yes, you read that right. One hundred. And all of them need to be read and completed by March 30, 2016. Sounds like a lot of books, but the truth is, we’ve done this before. Last year, my oldest daughter received the Superintendents Honor Roll Award for achieving this exact same task. And this year, on the very first day of school, Greenleigh came home and announced plans to do it again. It made this proud mom’s heart swell. I just love how much she loves to read. She’ll read anything and everything that she can get her hands on and they all count towards her goal. And more than anything else she loves to read to her little brother and sister. Seriously, how cute is this:
Clearly, she subscribes to my theory of starting them young. Greenleigh was around 6 months old when we started making storytime part of our daily routine, and we’ve kept up with it despite adding sports, dance, religious schooling, and all sorts of other activities to our calendar…because reading is important. And Greenleigh is not only reading, but she’s reading above grade level, which played a critical part in her getting placed in the gifted classroom this year. With any luck, Greenleigh reading to her brother and sister each night right now will inspire them to want to reach (or exceed) their own reading milestones when they are in elementary school.
So naturally, when Scholastic offered to send more books for my young readers, I jumped at the chance. We can never have too much reading material in our house. We’ve been a fan of Scholastic for quite and I just love that their new “The Story Starts Here” campaign targets starting kids reading young. With a wide variety of board books, picture books, and story books, you can instill reading in your child young and continue well into their elementary school years and for years after that.
Our delivery consisted of 5 different books – Peek-a-boo Farm, If You’re a Robot and You Know It, Where’s Walrus? and Penguin?, Zen Socks, and Friendshape – each special in their own way. Greenleigh’s favorite is definitely Zen Socks, which makes sense because it’s geared towards kids in the 4-8 age range, but she loves reading Friendshape and showing her brother and sister Peek-a-boo Farm. My favorite is most definitely If You’re a Robot and You Know it…it reminds me so much of the pop up books that I had as a kid, but bigger and brighter and with more pop ups than before.
What to check out these books for yourself so you can encourage your little reader? Great, because I’m giving away a Scholastic Prize Pack which includes all the books you see above. That’s a lot of entertainment for your little one! Enter using the rafflecopter form below and it could be yours!
