Disclosure: I was given the opportunity to review the Hamilton Beach Wave-Action Blender as a member of the Hamilton Beach Brand Ambassador program. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Last summer I was pretty much smoothie obsessed. I drank smoothies constantly – breakfast, lunch, even the occasional dinner. I just couldn’t get enough. They’re cool, delicious, and filling, and most of the time I tried to make them healthy, too. I found smoothie recipes online and created a few of my own recipes that I shared here on my blog. But this year I really hadn’t been bit by the smoothie bug…until my brand new Hamilton Beach Wave-Action Blender arrived. Because – check it out – the Hamilton Beach Wave-Action Blender comes complete with it’s own “Smoothie” button! But there’s so much more to love about the Hamilton Beach Wave-Action Blender than just the Smoothie setting (there are actually 3 other settings – Mix/Milkshake, Dice/Chop/Salsa, Grind/Crush Ice – the Smoothie setting just happens to be my favorite). The Hamilton Beach Wave-Action Blender comes complete with a 700 watt peak power motor, lid with pour spout and filter cap, and a stir spoon for thicker foods. And there’s no need to hold back when it comes to your smoothie making because it comes equipped with a 48 oz glass jar that’s dishwasher safe. Most importantly, the Wave-Action Blender is designed to pull the ingredients in side down into the blades for smooth, consistent results every time. It’s pretty much the smoothie addict’s best friend. And mine showed up just in time for the hottest month of the year. Smoothie? Don’t mind if I do.
For my first smoothie of the summer, I decided to make it sweet and tart with a little bit of a crunch. I’d picked up some pears while I was store last week and they seemed perfect for this smoothie. I added a few blueberries, a bit of sugar, lemon yogurt and topped it off with some granola. The results got rave reviews from my family and my husband even asked for seconds. Given the thick nature of this smoothie (there’s no ice, which I think makes it more flavorful but also thicker overall), I was extremely grateful for the Wave-Action Blender’s pour spout and stir spoon. In fact, the filler cap at the very top of the blender allowed me to insert the stir spoon into the blender while it was working so I could push the frozen pear that occasionally got stuck along the sides of the blender down into the blades. This smoothie was ready quickly and poured easily into the glass with no mess!
Want to make one yourself? Here’s how!
You will need:
2 medium sized pears, cubed and frozen
1/2 cup blueberries, frozen
12 oz fat free lemon yogurt (2 – 6oz cups)
1 Tbsp sugar
Granola for topping, if desired
Directions – Place all the ingredients in the blender and blend using the Smoothie setting for approximately 1-2 minutes. While the blender is on, use the stir spoon (in the filler cap at the top of the blender), to push the ingredients down into the blades. Once well blended, pour into a glass and top with granola, if desired.
