Ever since I started working part-time, Friday has become “date day” for Erajh and I. We run errands, have lunch, do little projects around the house…okay, so it’s not as exciting as a date night, but it’s a ton cheaper since babysitters aren’t required. And every now and again we get to do something fun, like go to the movies. Since we go to the movies frequently – and typically like different types of movies – we take turns selecting what movie we’re going to see that particular week. After over a decade together, we each have a pretty good idea of what the other likes, so I knew Erajh’s pick would be Guardians of the Galaxy when it first came out earlier this year. I wasn’t wrong. We were there opening weekend, front and center. But, of course, going to the movie required a bit of explanation from my husband, who’s inner “sci-fi nerd” (his words, not mine) was jumping up and down in excitement at the mere release of this movie. For those of you who might not know, the Guardians of the Galaxy are made up of 5 beings (Peter “Starlord” Quinn, Gamora, Groot, Drax & Rocket). Separately they are not upstanding citizens but collectively they form a ragtag group of good guys who are going to save the galaxy. Each character has their own story line, but interacts and is part of the group. Although I originally went to this movie for my husband, I ended up loving it! It was action packed and funny and you could tell that someone put real time into developing each of the characters. The day we left the theater, I was sure that we would be adding this movie to our blu-ray collection. So imagine my excitement when I happened to stumble on some Guardians of the Galaxy toys while doing some Christmas shopping in the toy department at Walmart last weekend. I immediately grabbed the Milano Starship and went on the hunt for more. Seriously, how cool is this toy? I knew my husband was going to totally freak out in excitement (until his asthma kicked-in, that is). Although they didn’t have a ton of toys available at the time, I was told to check back because they were expecting lots more on Monday (today!) for the DVD and Blu-Ray release tomorrow, Tuesday, December 9th. In fact, they said they were going to have a huge display for the occasion and a promotion for a $5 Walmart gift card offer when you purchase a Groot, Drax or Rocket Raccoon figure for Disney Infinity 2.0. from December 7th through the 13th (no coupon required!). And that’s a great deal when you consider that the DVD already comes with an exclusive character O-sleeve, exclusive music zinepack, and a 64-page magazine with cast and crew interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and trivia PLUS a custom “cassette” laptop decal. That’s a lot of Guardians of the Galaxy for a very low price! So after I got home from the store – with my Milano Starship in tow – I decided to whip up a drink to celebrate the release. A drink based on one of the characters in the movie – The Green Gamora Mocktail! With absolutely no liquor required, this is a drink that even the smallest fans can enjoy. And it’s easy to make too! You will need:
1 liter lemon-lime soda
1 liter pineapple juice
1 package Kool-Aid Lemonade
10 drops of green food coloring
Sliced lemons and/or limes (optional)
Place all ingredients into a pitcher and stir well. Add slices of lemon and lime if desired. Serve chilled!
Tip: To sprinkle the rims of your glasses, take a small amount of canned frosting and run it around the rim of your glass using a paper towel or your fingers. You want enough to coat the rim of the glass, but not so much that there are clumps of frosting visible. Once coated, dip glass with frosting into a bowl with sprinkles, making sure to coat the entire top, including the inside of the glass.
So have you seen Guardians of the Galaxy? Do you plan to buy it when it’s released tomorrow, December 9th? Leave me a comment and let me know!
This is perfect! Our girls love the “raccoon,” as they call Rocket, and Groot, of course. I love the soundtrack. 🙂 But the mocktail is the perfect meeting of the minds. They’ll drink it because it’s a cool color, and we’ll drink it because it tastes mighty fine. Thanks for sharing!
We haven’t seen it, but based on reviews I think I could buy it the boys would be very happy! Thank you for the recipe!
The cocktails looks yummy. We will probably try since all the ingredients are reusable for more than one drink!
Oh the drink looks fun!
It totally drew me in.
I must see this movie soon! We wanted to see it in the theaters, but never did.
This is such a fun way to celebrate a great movie coming out on DVD! #client
