Disclosure: I was provided a Bright Starts 3-in-1 Step ‘n Ride Lion for review purposes. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
After 5 1/2 years of parenting, there’s no shortage of toys in our house. So. Many. Toys. But last month when a sitter came over to watch the kids, she looked at me and casually said, “And, um, where are Everett’s toys?”. There was an awkward pause as I scurried around the room grabbing things that appeared to be age appropriate. “Uh, here’s a toy phone…and the toy dinosaur he got for his birthday…and he likes this ball…”, I replied. I’ll admit I was really reaching – especially since the ball I handed the sitter was pink and covered with princesses. It was in that moment that I realized, despite my desire to keep all our baby and toddler stuff (knowing we were planning to have more kids), the baby and toddler toys had slowly slipped out the door when I wasn’t looking, and were replaced with toys for preschool and kindergarten aged girls. Bottom line, Everett has very few toys that are actually “his”. Determined to rectify the situation I reached out to Bright Starts who happily sent me their 3-in-1 Step ‘n Ride Lion.
The Bright Starts 3-in-1 Step ‘n Ride Lion is just one of the 3 brand new toys that I was lucky enough to preview back at BlogHer in San Jose, CA over the summer. Part of the “Having a Ball Collection”, the 3-in-1 Step ‘n Ride Lion features a mane of colorful balls that spin as music plays. When the seat is down, it’s the perfect ride on toy for toddlers; once converted, the seat makes a great handle for beginning walkers. Non-walkers can play with the lion’s light up nose that plays music when pressed and the 3 additional balls that can be fed through the lion’s mouth and slide out through the door in the lion’s chest. Full of fun melodies and silly sounds, this toy has 3 ways to play and was clearly designed to put fun first!
When I first took it out of the box, I knew it was perfect for Everett. It plays tons of melodies like “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”, “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad”, and “Do You Know the Muffin Man?”. Just pressing the nose makes it light up and the mane to move, so there’s no need to actually move it (by walking/pushing) for the fun to begin. And although I didn’t love the set up (seriously, if you’re putting this together for Christmas morning, give yourself about 20-25 minutes for this toy on Christmas Eve, those screws aren’t easy to get in!), I love it’s versatility. The transition from push toy to ride-on toy is a snap and can even be done with one hand. I just wish that I had gotten it a little earlier so he could have enjoyed it as a sitter and a cruiser. If you want to give a new mom a toy for their baby, this is it. They won’t be able to use it right away, but when their child is 5-7 months old you’ll probably get a phone call thanking you for thinking ahead!
And Everett? Well, needless to say, he loves it. He loves the music. He loves the lights. He loves the fact that he can ride it around the house. And best of all, this is his toy…when his sisters don’t try to steal it!
Now for the best part! Bright Starts will be giving one lucky reader a 3-in-1 Step ‘n Ride Lion of their very own! Enter using the rafflecopter form below for your chance to win. Good luck everyone!
