Hazeline has been asking to have a slumber party for weeks months. I’m not 100% where she even got the idea of a slumber party in the first place, but the only thing that is certain is that she definitely wants one now. Definitely. And not just any slumber party, she wants a Sofia the First slumber party complete with toys, games, movies, snacks….and maybe even a little bit of sleep (?). Hey, a mom can hope.
Last weekend, when I was at Walmart for picking up a new comforter for Hazeline, I saw all their cute Disney Junior designs – Minnie Mouse, Doc McStuffins, and Sofia the First. There was no doubt which one I was going to be buying, but it got me thinking. It doesn’t hurt to start planning for our Sofia the First Slumber Party, right? Maybe even give it a trial run? And that’s exactly what we did when Erajh went out to the football game with a friend this past weekend. It was a girl’s night Ultimate Sofia the First Slumber Party! And you know who was more than ready for the affair!
If you’re thinking about throwing a Sofia the First Slumber Party for your little one, here are a few things you might want to include:
Snacks
Crowns & Jewels – What’s a princess party without a little bling? In this case, edible bling. If not for Greenleigh’s peanut allergy, I would have made these PB&J sandwiches, but instead I made them as turkey and cheese. My kids are a bit reluctant when it comes to sandwiches, but love them when they come in shapes! The grapes, or jewels, make a great great snack. I made sure to get red grapes, because they look a bit more purple, which, of course, is Sofia the First’s signature colors.
Fairy Berries – This is the perfect way to sneak some healthy food onto the menu.
To make the fairy wands, all you’ll need is a little ribbon and a lollipop stick. Simply tie 3 strands of ribbon onto the end of one of the lollipop sticks and place a few pieces of fruit on the other end. Then let your kids dip their fruit filled wands into some vanilla yogurt. For a little extra fun, dye the yogurt Sofia the First purple or pink!
Clover’s Cupcakes – For desert, I used a little food gel to color the cupcakes Sofia the First purple and topped it with pink frosting and a few sprinkles. The best part of this snack is that it can be not just a sweet treat, but also an activity. Hazeline loved decorating her cupcake!
And for the record, all Sofia snacks taste a ton better when served with Princess Punch on Sofia the First plates and napkins!
Crafts
Personalized Your Pillow – Probably the best slumber party craft, and all you need are a few pillow cases and fabric (or permanent) markers! My girls just did this at a party recently, so we didn’t do it this time, but it’s on our calendar for our next slumber party. For younger kids (3-4 years), you should probably draw a few things for them to color in as then tend to lack direction with a plain white canvas/pillow case. Older kids (5-7 years) will probably have a little too much direction!
Jewelry Box – Because you can’t just leave your Amulet of Avalor lying around… My 5 year old was okay painting her own jewelry box, but for younger kids, you might consider painting the box for them and letting them top it with rhinestones (I found them in the scrapbooking/craft aisle at Walmart).
Activity Packs – I picked these up during my shopping trip for less than $1 a piece! They’ve got stickers, coloring sheets, crayons, and more, all keeping with the Sofia the First theme. If you want to keep your craft simple, this is the way to do it! They also make great favors for your guests as they leave.
Entertainment
Dress-Up – What’s a princess party without dress up? I made sure to pick up a few extra crowns to go with out already overflowing princess dress up trunk. And once they were done, it was into their Sofia the First pajamas.
Movies – After the snacks and crafts and dress up, it was time for the final event – Sofia the First and The Floating Palace. My girls like all the Sofia the First movies (Holiday in Enchancia, Once Upon a Princess, and Ready to be a Princess), but The Floating Palace is by far their favorite. We popped some popcorn, turned off the lights, and my girls were good and sleepy by the time it was over.
All in all, our Ultimate Sofia the First Slumber Party was a huge success. And I think it changed my mind a little, because we are definitely having another one (with guests)!
If you’re considering throwing a Sofia the First slumber party of your own, don’t forget to pick up a Sofia the First comforter of your own in the bedding aisle. They also have tons of other Disney Jr. favorites like Doc McStuffins, Minnie Mouse, and more!
Great party ideas! I will have to save some of these for my daughter’s next slumber party. Love the fairy berry recipe. Too cute! #client
Hey there, where did you find this amulet pictured in the jewelry box? It appears to be real metal, is that true?
Hi! No, it isn’t real metal, it’s plastic. I believe we got it at the Disney Store. Thanks for stopping by!
