There’s a countdown that’s been going on in my house since January. On any given day, you can ask my husband how many days until college football starts and he can tell you. Sometimes down to the exact number of hours and minutes. I can very confidently tell you that there are 10 days until college football starts for the Georgia Bulldogs…because quite frankly, it’s all I’ve heard about for the last few weeks months. And the start of the SEC Network last week didn’t help. You see, we are die hard UGA fans. And each year – after the countdown is over – we kick off the season and celebrate the Dawgs with a party full of fabulous game day food.
So when I saw Jell-O Jiggler University Mold kits on the Walmart website, I thought they would be perfect. Who doesn’t love Jell-O? And it’s simply irresistible when put into UGA shapes. You can find them simply by going to the Walmart website and searching for the name of your school (if it isn’t UGA, it should be) or “Jell-O Jiggler Mold Kit”. And at just under $6, they’re a bargain. Plus, there’s a coupon for 75 cents off any Jell-O Mold Kit currently on the Walmart website!Okay, okay, technically they make then for other teams too. But those don’t really matter. Pay particular note to the University of Georgia Jiggler Mold Kit towards the bottom of the page and buy that one. I even upgraded my shipping so I could get my kit faster and still paid around $10 total. My husband – who normally chooses to ignore my online shopping addiction – was excited when they arrived.
Each mold kit includes 2 mold trays that will make 12 Jigglers a piece (for 24 total when both mold trays are used) and 4 boxes of strawberry Jell-O. Originally, when I bought this online I thought I was just buying the mold trays, and was thrilled to see that it included everything that I’d need except the boiling water. Remember: You don’t add cold water when making Jell-O Jigglers, only boiling water.
But then I had a bit of a panic attack. Georgia’s colors are red and black. Sure I could just make red Jell-O Jigglers, but I really wanted to make red and black Jigglers. How in the world do you make black Jell-O? As it turns out, it’s pretty easy and the recipe is on the side of the Jell-O Mold Kit box. Simply combine 2 cups of boiling water with 2 (3 oz) packages of grape Jell-O and 1 (3 oz) package of lime Jell-O. Viola! Black Jell-O Jigglers.
They’re pretty yummy too.
But then I started thinking about a way to combine the red and black Jigglers into one. I’d seen layered Jell-O before on Pinterest, but normally it requires a stripe of white to be placed in the middle. White is not one of UGA’s colors, so that simply wouldn’t do. Instead, I carefully layered the Jell-O in the molds and they turned out perfectly. I like to call them UGA Red & Black Jigglers. I can now say that we are officially ready for the season to begin and these Jell-O Jigglers will be on the game day food menu! Want to make UGA Red & Black Jigglers for yourself? They’re easy to make!
You will need:
1 (3 oz) packages of strawberry Jell-O
2 (3 oz) packages of grape Jell-O
1 (3 oz) package of lime Jell-O
boiling water
2 University of Georgia Jell-O Jigglers Mold Trays
Step 1 – Spray your Jell-O Jiggler Mold Trays with cooking spray. You don’t need a whole lot, I actually sprayed mine and then wiped off the excess with a paper towel. You just need enough so the Jell-O Jigglers will come out of the mold without being damaged.
Step 2 – Combine package of strawberry Jell-O with 2/3 cup of boiling water. Stir for 3 minutes.
Step 3 – Spoon Jell-O into the molds, one by one, filling halfway. Place in the fridge for 45 minutes.
Step 4 – After the red Jell-O Jigglers have been in the fridge for 45 minutes, start making your black Jell-O by combining 2 cups boiling water with 2 packages of grape Jell-O and 1 package of lime Jell-O. Stir for 3 minutes. Place to the side for 20 minutes to cool.
Note: Keep the Jell-O Molds in the fridge while you are making the black Jell-O.
Step 5 – Once your black Jell-O has cooled, remove the molds from the fridge and spoon the black Jell-O on top of it filling to the top. Refrigerate for 3 hours or until fully set.
Step 6 – Remove the Jell-O Mold Trays from the fridge. Gently run a knife around the edge of each Jiggler to loosen it from the mold. Empty the Jigglers on to a plate, eating as many as you can before your kids notice that you just made Jigglers and insist that you share.
Here’s to another great season and delicious game day food! Go Dawgs!
