Doctor On Demand: Because Sometimes You Don’t Have Time for the Waiting Room

This is a sponsored conversation on behalf of Doctor on Demand. As always all opinions are my own.Copy of doctor-on-demand-logo-largeSeveral months ago I was watching the Dr. Phil show when I heard about Doctor On Demand, a service that gives you access to doctors right from your Apple or Andriod device.  I had been barely paying attention to the television up until that point, but stopped what I was doing to sit and watch as they showed how the service worked.  From a sound stage in California, Dr. Phil was able to not only contact a doctor, but see, hear, and interact with them in real time.  The doctor then explained that they could handle most non-emergency services right then and there, even calling in prescriptions the local pharmacy, if necessary.  I sat there totally amazed by how much time I could save by using a service like Doctor On Demand.

So naturally, I jumped at the chance to actually get to use the service myself.  My kids get sick a lot, and I’m always looking for a way to avoid that long wait in the pediatricians waiting room.  Who has the time?  Certainly not this mom.

I started my Doctors On Demand call not quite knowing what to expect – and a little nervous because I’m not a huge fan of video chatting – but was pleasantly surprised with my visit.  Luckily I didn’t have any medical issues that needed to be addressed, but the doctor I spoke with assured me that if I did, they could handle most of them by video chat in a matter of minutes.  Everything from coughs, colds, asthma, or even just prescription refills.  The doctor was very easy to talk to, which made the call much easier.  It also made me feel at ease that all doctors from Doctors On Demand are licensed, certified, and background checked.doctorondemandimageThe doctor explained that besides working with adults, they can handle cases involving children and I suddenly wished that I had thought to use Doctor On Demand when Hazeline got sick a week ago.  Doctor On Demand could have prescribed Zofan, advised regarding of the proper dose of Motrin for Hazeline’s weight, and checked for signs of dehydration.  And all of it could have been done from the comfort of my own home instead of dragging a very sick 3 year old across town.  I would have even saved on my co-pay, because Doctor On Demand is $40 for a 15 minute consultation and my co-pay for after hours care is $50…and, honestly, I’m not sure that I even saw the doctor for a full 15 minutes when I went to the doctors office with Hazeline.

By the end of the call, I was absolutely certain that I would be using the service again.  So easy.  So convenient.  So affordable.  This is a free app that I’ll be keeping around for quite a while!`  If you haven’t tried it, you definitely should!

To learn more about Doctor On Demand be sure to download the free app (here for Google Play or here for iTunes), and be sure to like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter!

I don’t have the type of equipment needed to access this service. I wonder if it is all over the country or just in certain regions. Some of this makes me a little nervous –like prescriptions over the “phone” when the doc does not know you–but then I am 63 so I could be trying to hold on to the “old ways”

I can’t believe how simple it is to use Doctor on Demand. This is super handy, especially since I avoid going to the doctor’s office because of the inconvenience.

I LOVE this idea! Thankfully our co-pays are manageable right now, but late at night? Heck yes! Especially when the on-call doctor doesn’t get back to you right away.

  4. I hadn’t heard of this before. What an interesting concept!

I think this is an amazing app. It is great for those who can’t get to the clinic or don’t have the time to go.
