Greenleigh loves to play “the birthday game”. Essentially, it’s the game of trying to figure out who’s birthday is coming up next on the calendar…secretly hoping, of course, that her birthday is next on the list. You see, spring kicks off a very active birthday season for us. Both Hazeline and Greenleigh’s birthdays are in the spring (March and April, respectively), followed by my mother-in-law’s birthday, my sister’s birthday, my birthday, my grandmother’s birthday…well, you get it – we’re very busy. And by the time you add in the party invitations we get from the girls’ friends at school on a near daily basis, we’re pretty much booked every single weekend through summer. And even then, it doesn’t really slow down. Our friends tease about how many birthday parties we get invited to.
But going to all those parties can get expensive – gifts, wrapping paper, gift bags, tissue paper, and the card…can’t forget the card! So naturally, when I saw signs for $0.47 and $0.97 Hallmark cards at Walmart last week, I knew I had to check it out. As I walked over to the display, I wasn’t really expecting too much. I mean, I normally spend a lot more than $0.47 or $0.97 on birthday cards, so I questioned exactly what I would find. But as it turns out, these cards are the exact same, high quality cards you’ll find in the regular Hallmark card section – fun cards, glittery cards, shimmery cards, character cards – you name it, they had it. Each one conveying it’s own little message to the receipient on the inside with plenty of room to write and personalize. And unlike the regular Hallmark card section where prices can be found on the back of the card, these cards don’t list a price on the back so no one will ever know what you spent or that it’s a value card.
There were cards for every occasion from get well to holiday to engagement to baby…and of course, birthday cards, lots and lots of birthday cards!
And that’s when the stock up spree began. A birthday card for my mother-in-law, a card for my grandmother, birthday cards for both of my girls, I just couldn’t help myself. There were so many cards to choose from and goodness knows, we need them. And because they had a great selection of kids birthday cards, I picked up several extra to have on hand for those parties that I don’t even know about yet (because, let’s face it, they are going to happen).
Even better? You can get rewarded for all the Hallmark cards you buy at Walmart through the Hallmark Cards Rewards Program. All you have to buy is 5 cards and you’ll earn a reward, and signing up is free. That’s right, totally free! Needless to say, I racked up quite a few rewards during my stock up spree. See all those cards below? Yeah, that’s only half of what I actually bought.
Since my mother-in-law’s birthday is coming up soon and she’ll actually be at our house for her birthday, I decided to let Greenleigh sign and decorate my mother-in-law’s birthday card now so we’ll have it ready for the small party that we’re going to have for her. Greenleigh was very excited! She did eventually sign her name…she just had to decorate it first. Because decorating a birthday card is required when you’re 4.
Thanks to Walmart and Hallmark’s Value Birthday Cards, I’m officially ready for birthday season to begin. Are you? AWESOME! Thank you for posting this, I had no clue! Actually I should probably check to make sure it’s in Canada as well 🙂
Oh, good question…I’m not sure if they are in Canada, but it’s definitely worth a trip to the store to check it out!
I love Hallmark cards!
Wow, what a value for Hallmark cards. I like to stock up on cards every few months so I have them at the ready for birthdays, anniversaries and just general saying “hi” ones.
I love their value cards! they are always so cute! I am also always up for saving some money!
Me too!
What a great deal. Cards generally run any where from .99 (if you are lucky enough to find a nice one for that price) to # or 4 dollars. My Mom is always looking for cards, I will definitely be telling her about this.
I didn’t realize Hallmark has cards that inexpensive, but that’s fantastic! It kills me to spend almost $10 bucks on a card, tissue, and gift bag or wrapping paper. That’s usually half of what the gift costs me.
Me too. Often a can reuse a gift bag, but tissue paper and cards can get expensive!
What is a holiday or birthday without a hallmark card? love them! Espeically the humourous ones!
It’s really cute to let kids draw in them.
I love the Hallmark Birthday Value Card selection at Walmart and stocked up recently too! Thanks for sharing! #client
