Life is pretty chaotic after having a baby. Well, maybe I shouldn’t speak for you, but I know that my life was pretty chaotic in the days, weeks, and months (years?) after having my kids. And the days following Everett’s birth were probably some of the most chaotic, considering I had 2 other kids to keep me on my toes (in addition to the newborn who wasn’t fond of sleeping more than 4 hours at a time). So when Karen from Karen Lisa Artistic Photography emailed me to let me know that she’d be coming by for our newborn session when Everett was only 8 days old, I wondered how the pictures would turn out. Would we get peaceful baby pictures or chaotic pictures of a messy house and his older sisters trying to commandeer the spotlight? Turns out, a little of both.If you couldn’t tell, that blanket that she’s holding on to while shrieking loudly is the same blanket that Everett was calmly sleeping on just minutes before. Let no spotlight go un-stolen.
Over the course of several hours Karen photographed the calm and the chaos in our house, and all the moments in between. Moments of excitement,
moments of sisterly love, and moments where the chaos of our house seemed like it didn’t even exist.
But rest assured, the chaos was there – a messy house, little girls who preferred watching iPad to following directions, and the seeming impossibility of getting everyone to look happy in the same direction at the same time – oh, it was all there. It took at least 15 attempts to get this picture:Of course, at the end of the day, it was all worth it, because these pictures captured this time in our lives perfectly. Everett will never be this small again. My girls will never be this small again. This was the beginning of our journey as a family of 5…chaos and all.
