I’ve been talking about scheduling a 3D ultrasound for…well, forever. Or, at least, since I announced this pregnancy. It was one of those things that I didn’t do when I was pregnant with Hazeline (mainly because I forgot), and I kind of regret. But honestly, I only did a 3D ultrasound with Greenleigh’s pregnancy so my mom could see the baby, since she doesn’t live locally and couldn’t go to any of the ultrasounds at my doctor’s office. The pictures from that 3D ultrasound are truly remarkable and one of them still lives on our fridge 4 1/2 years later. Greenleigh loves to see the picture of herself in “mommy’s tummy”, and I’m slightly dreading the day that I have to explain to Hazeline that she doesn’t have one of those pictures.
So this time, I was determined to have a 3D ultrasound done. This is going to be my last pregnancy, and I don’t want to have any regrets.
But then life got in the way. July was crazy, we were away a good portion of August, and June just felt like it would be too soon. So I sat. And I waited. Until it was September I was a day shy of 36 weeks. A friend had warned me that if I waited too long, the pictures would resemble Shrek instead of a little baby since they tend to run out of space in there. And sure enough, I got the same warning (well, not about Shrek specifically, but about space concerns) from the ultrasound place when I arrived on Wednesday. But they agreed to try.
As luck would have it, we ended up getting some pretty adorable pictures. Like a glimpse at his profile:
And that is without a doubt my husband’s nose:
They’re not perfect, because he is in fact running out of space in there and the placenta is in the way, but I’m so glad we did it. And the girls loved getting a chance to visit with Baby Brother and getting their own pictures to take with them.
Moral of the story: Have your 3D/4D Ultrasound done somewhere between week 27 and week 32, but if you wait until 35 or 36 weeks you could still get some pretty cute – and non-Shrek like – pictures.
I LOVED my daughter’s 3D/4D ultrasound, except it made me slightly more impatient to hold her. I still recommend it to friends.
So cute! I have never done the 3d/4d ultrasound, but I always love seeing people’s photos from their ultrasounds. It’s pretty incredible!
oh how precious, love the ones with the smiles!
Loving the smile and the yawn! He looks so nice and cozy!
