A few years ago, I started researching pet foods. It was sometime in 2007 after we adopted Madison and I felt totally lost in vast variety of pet food options available. After asking our vet and friends for recommendations, I started to do some of my own research. What I found was frightening. In fact, the more research I did, the scarier it got. Brands packed full of by-products or corn and soy, yielding little to no nutritional value. Brands packed full of artificial colors and flavors, so they would look good to the people who bought them but were far from healthy for the pets actually eating them. And brands full of preservatives. All of which were so-called “good” brands peddling bad things in dog food.
So I started compiling my own list – a list of truly good dog foods. Balanced foods that contained the protein that pets need. Foods that skipped fillers and by-products. Foods that didn’t contain corn or soy, or at the very least had them listed at the very bottom of the ingredients label (pet food ingredients are listed by weight, so the first ingredients are the most plentiful). But unfortunately for me, to actually buy these foods required a trip to a specialty pet food store, which was fine…until I had to worry about the daycare pickup deadline and dragging my kids out-of-the-way to a specialty pet food store. Then that specialty pet food became problematic.
Lucky for me, Chewy.com is a company dedicated to delivering pet happiness. That means no trips out-of-the-way to the specialty pet food store – the food and treats arrive at my door every month or when ever I need it, making me (and my pets!) very, very happy. They offer over 200 types of quality dog and cat food brands, which are delivered for free with an order totaling more than $49. But it doesn’t end at food and treats. Chewy has so, so much more than that! They carry a full line of interactive pet toys, flea & tick care, grooming essentials, heavenly pet beds, and adorable collars, all carefully divided into their Dog and Cat Shops, so you know exactly where to find what you need.
Chewy was even nice enough to send me a bag of Orijen Original Freeze Dried Dog Treats to try out, which is great because while lots of pet owners haven’t heard of Orijen, I remember them as one of the truly good brands of pet food from when I did my research years ago. Simply put, their foods are known for being balanced and meat-based, and their treats are no different. Although light an airy (seriously, they weigh less than a feather), these treats are packed full of protein and made without any preservatives, fillers, or artificial flavors. Just look at the label! All you’ll see is Cobb chicken liver, turkey liver, boneless Cobb chicken, boneless turkey, and boneless flounder. And at just 7 calories a piece, you don’t need to feel bad about spoiling your pets with these treats!
Our Orijen treats arrived straight from Chewy.com in a matter of 2-3 days and were left right on our doorstep (in the shade), so they were waiting for me when I got home. Chewy not only wrapped the treats well, but shipped them in a box so they wouldn’t be crushed or exposed to sunlight. And we didn’t waste anytime in opening the package – within minutes of taking the package into the house, Maddie was snacking like crazy!
As a busy mom, Chewy.com is perfect for my family – they save me money, they save me money, and still provide quality nutrition for my pets. But you know who’s an even bigger fan of Chewy.com and Orijen treats? This dog right here:
That’s her “Give Me the Treat and No One Gets Hurt” look, if you couldn’t tell.
Dog treats are getting so fancy these days! Our furry friends deserve special treatment 🙂
How cute – our Yorkie would love these and I would love having them delivered right to the door!
I love that I know what every ingredient is in that list. I wouldn’t feed mystery food to my family, why would I to my dog?
Guess I am going to have to go check them out for my TYRANTS food and treats (Baby my cat)!!
I’m always trying to look for healthy and new stuff for my dog. She eats the same thing over and over cause she’s quite picky. Will definitely try this.
i will have to try these out for our dogs! we currently use busybones but these seem so much better!
