I have a love/hate relationship with Greenleigh’s camp. Well, more specifically, the camp bus. I love that Greenleigh wants to go to camp, but I hate that bus. Or should I say, I hate racing that bus. It doesn’t matter how early I get up, somehow we are always running late in the mornings. Always. Which leaves me racing down the street praying the bus is still in the parking lot when we get there. Most of the time we make it to camp before the bus leaves, but other times, I’m left chasing it around the county to find where they took the kids that day to drop Greenleigh off (thankfully, that has only happened once or twice). Why, oh why, must field trips leave so early? It’s the summer remember? Lazy days, sleeping in, you know the drill…
But as much as I normally hate it, this morning I couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy as Greenleigh jumped on the bus. For a moment, I, too, wanted to go to camp.
Before you think I’m crazy, hear me out…
Today, Greenleigh’s camp went on a field trip to the movies. Last week, they went to horse camp for the day. The week before that, they went to the aquarium. They regularly go to the pool and the park and all sorts of other fun places. So you can see why I had to all but hold myself back from jumping on that bus with her. My office isn’t half as fun as any of those places.
And when they get back from all those fun places? Lunch is served. A lunch they didn’t have to prepare or even so much as think about. It just arrives on a plate. That lunch debate that normally spans a good 30-45 minutes in our office? It doesn’t exist at camp.
Once lunch is over, it’s down for a nap. Oh, what I wouldn’t do for a nap in the middle of the day. Did I mention that the nap is for nearly 2 hours? ‘Cause it is. Now that’s a nap I can get into. Okay, okay, it’s only on a mat on the floor, but still, it’s a nap. A 2 hour nap. And then it’s up for arts and crafts in the afternoon. I currently have at least 1/2 dozen art projects on my list, so having the entire afternoon to craft would no doubt get that list done a bunch quicker. Perhaps if I had hours in the afternoon each day to dedicate to crafts, you might actually see a craft post around here more often. In fact, I can’t even think of my last craft post.
I’m not going to lie, folks, remove the matching t-shirts, change the school bus to a charter bus (with a fabulous air conditioning system), and add a glue gun to arts & crafts time, and you pretty much have my perfect day. I might just sneak on that bus with her next time.
Who’s coming with me?
ME!! I’m with you!! Camp sounds like a way better time than dealing with cranky customers!!
I’m so with you! As a fellow South Floridian, I am so jealous that my son gets to go to camp and enjoy the awesome weather while I am stuck in a subzero temp office.
