Like most little kids, Greenleigh has a favorite blanket. One that she carries around the house with her, takes on trips with us, and needs to have on her bed every night so she can go to sleep. The problem? It’s white. And not like an egg shell or off-white, it’s a bright, snow white. I’m not sure who decided to manufacture a blanket for babies and toddlers in such a color, but rest assured, if I find them, I have some stern words for them. Of course we got it as a baby gift before Greenleigh was even born, and at that point, it seemed like the perfect blanket for our little bundle of joy. Now that I’m a toddler mom, I know different. I know how dirty and grungy it can get. And it doesn’t help that it goes everywhere with us, often being dragged on the floor behind her. But it is her favorite blanket and that’s pretty important to a 3 year old. So I do my very best to keep it clean and I know that the detergent that I use when doing the laundry matters.
We’ve been a Tide household for years now, but it hasn’t always been that way. There was a time when I would buy whatever was cheapest or that I had a coupon for, but I noticed that when I did that, I often had to wash a load of laundry more than once to get it completely clean. I also noticed that there were stains that just wouldn’t come out for the other detergent, but came out when we used Tide just once. After bouncing from one detergent to another, my husband finally told me, “Don’t buy anything else, just buy Tide from now on.” That decision was made long before we had kids, and I’m glad, because now that I’m a mom, I don’t have time to be washing the same load of laundry more than once (unless I forget that I put a load of laundry in the machine only to discover it 2 days later and need to re-wash it…oh wait. Is that just me?).
Because it’s so hard to keep clothes and blankets white in our house, when I heard about Tide Vivid White + Bright I knew I had to try it. It’s a high efficiency laundry detergent with active enzymes to break down stains while whitening and brightening every load of laundry. Because it contains a bleach alternative, it is safe to use on whites and colors (or in my case, that pesky purple sock that always seems to end up mixed in with my whites). I don’t have to worry about bleaching something I shouldn’t or getting any of those bleach splatter spots on my clothes.
So I decided to put Tide Vivid White + Bright to the test. Here is Greenleigh’s blanket after a typical week. That’s right – ONE week. The brown stains on the right are from her chocolate milk. The blue stains on the left are probably marker. And all that dirt in the middle? No doubt from my tile floor, which I swear is cleaned weekly. And although it’s not visible in the picture, I’m sure there’s some pet hair on there somewhere, because…well…everything in hour house has some pet hair on it thanks to Madison and Sonoma who happen to find it the perfect accessory. As my girls would say, this picture is a whole lot of “ewww”. And as a mom, just looking at it makes me cringe; I almost hate to put it out there on the internet.
It was time to get it clean. So I dropped the blanket in the washer, added the Tide Vivid, and let it do it’s thing.
And an hour and a half later I had this:
Amazing isn’t it? The chocolate milk is gone. The blue marker? Erased. And all that dirt? No more! It feels soft and the light, fresh scent smells clean.
For anyone who is a skeptic (like me), rest assured, I only washed it once using Tide Vivid. I didn’t use any stain removers or boosters, although I’ve heard using this detergent with Tide Boost will produce even better results and I’m probably going to pick some of that up, because honestly, I can’t imagine what “better” looks like. Oh, and Greenleigh only has one blanket, so I didn’t switch them out. Still a skeptic? Give it a try. If it can handle Greenleigh’s favorite blanket, it can handle anything!
