My girls are in love with birthdays. In fact, I often find them singing happy birthday to no one at all. It’s not about the gifts either; they just love birthdays. So each day we have to go through the list of whose birthday is coming up next. Then last week it dawned on me – Sonoma’s birthday is February 2nd. Admittedly, that’s an educated guess. We got her on July 2nd and they said she wasn’t quite 6 months at the time, so I counted back 5 months and made February 2nd the special day. This year, Kitty-Kat (as nicknamed by Greenleigh when she was somewhere around 2 or 2 1/2) turned 11. It seemed only fitting that we celebrate such a milestone, after all, she is my first “child”.
So I found a cat birthday cake recipe online, whipped up the cake, and told the girls to say happy birthday to kitty-kat. Which they did pretty much all weekend long, along with attempts to hug and kiss her. She was not amused. She did however, like her gift…um, I mean the adorable chair that Erajh picked up for Greenleigh and Hazeline last week. Sonoma’s claimed it as hers (but wouldn’t smile for the camera because of the aforementioned hugging and kissing).
Which brings me to this – if you’re looking for a cat birthday cake recipe (I mean, who isn’t?), I highly recommend this one that I found at Blunder Construction. The instructions are simple and Sonoma loved her cake. I chose not to use a shrimp on top because Sonoma is the only cat who does not like cooked or raw shrimp, but I highly recommend using one if your cat likes shrimp. It will definitely make the cake look “prettier”.
You will need:
1 egg, beaten
1/2 can of tuna
2 tbs flour
2 tbs shredded cheese
Step 1 – Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2 – Place 1/2 can of tuna in the bottom of a small mixing bowl and break it up. Then add egg. Once tuna and egg are combined, add in the flour and the cheese. Using a spoon, mix well.
Step 3 – Scoop into lined cupcake tins and bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely. Serve to you furry feline friend!
We normally have a no paws on the table rule, but we lifted it for this occasion. Happy 11th Birthday Sonoma!
