Have I ever told you how much I hate ordering food over the phone? Well, if I haven’t, please know that I absolutely hate it. Because in the 5 minutes it takes to order over the phone everything will go wrong – my connection will suddenly drop, my kids will start loosing their minds, the doorbell will ring, my boss will walk in to my office and need something answered immediately, etc. There’s really no end to the possibilities. And of course, that’s all assuming that the person on the other end of the line has a firm grasp of the English language, which so often, they don’t. I can’t tell you how many times my husband and I end up in an argument over who’s going to call the restaurant to place the order. And at work, the task of placing the lunch order normally lands with the person who makes their choice last, or in other words, it’s a game of “not it”. But ordering online? With a choice of not just one, but several restaurants? I’ll place that order any day.
Delivery.com does just that. By going to their website, you have tons of delicious options at your fingertips. Find the type of food or restaurant you’re looking for, place the order and pay online, and it arrives at your door (there’s also an option to pick-up your food if you’d prefer to do that instead). Simple as that. Plus, once you sign up for an account, you start earning points for free food, prizes, and more. And after 10 orders, you automatically get a $5 Gift Card! It’s like getting paid to eat, and that’s pretty cool.
So armed with a gift card, I decided to try out delivery.com and buy my co-workers lunch. Nothing wrong with buying their love and affection, right? After all, I need to have someone help me get the copier un-jammed every time I jam it. We decided to have lunch from Chili’s and quickly put our order together. This time there was no fighting over who would be placing the order – I happily put our information into the delivery.com website. It was so ridiculously easy. A little over an hour later, our food arrived! It was hot and each of our orders was perfect (sauce on the side, extra beans, no rice, etc.), which is particularly impressive considering we ordered 5 entrees.
Feel free to drool. It was as delicious as it looks.
As easy as it was, I would make two suggestions when ordering from Delivery.com. First, order in advance and use the deliver at a certain time option. In other words, don’t pick “asap”, instead pick a particular time (1pm, 7:30pm, 11:15pm). This is a great feature – use it! That way you know when dinner is arriving, and your kids will get dinner when they expect it. Second, trust that the process works. Your food will arrive. You see, halfway through our waiting time, I started to worry about my order – Did they get the email? How long would it take? Maybe my order got lost? So I tried chasing down my order…but it proved more difficult than it sounds. In the end, our food arrived, when they said it would arrive. Apparently, I have food trust issues. Hey, when a girl is hungry, she’s hungry.
To me, the only real draw back to delivery.com is that it isn’t available in all areas yet. Because leaving the cooking to someone else and having hot food arrive at my door is a win, win if you ask me!
