I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – There are lots and lots of reasons to live in South Florida, but June, July, and August aren’t anywhere on that list. By the end of those brutal summer months I’m usually waiving a white flag, begging fall to pay a visit (and stay for a while).
Last Thursday, I walked out of my house and was surprised to find that the temperature was relatively low. The humidity that’s strangled me for the last 3-4 months was suddenly bearable. And the breeze blowing was almost cool. Almost. “Today is that day,” I thought. The day when nature lets me know that summer won’t last forever. The day that fall begins to creep in. And sure enough, as I listened to the weather report on my way to work, the projected high was only supposed to be 87 degrees. Only 87. So, so much better than the mid-90s that we’ve been getting. It really was “that” day. Normally, it lands somewhere in mid-September, but this year we had to wait a little longer.
All weekend, we enjoyed the cooler weather. We left the house knowing that we weren’t going to be sweating in a matter of minutes. We came home and didn’t want to immediately shower to get the sticky humidity off of us. We got a taste of what fall will be like – longer sleeves, comfort food, and more time outdoors. It may have rained a bit, but at least it didn’t hit 90 degrees. And that breeze? Delicious!
So imagine my dismay when I walked out of my house this morning right into a thick wall of humidity. Various curse words came to mind until turned the corner and saw this on my car…A small note from fall itself. A token saying, “I’m coming. I promise. Be patient.” I was immediately comforted. And yet, Greenleigh freaked the hell out. “Mommy, there’s a leaf on your car! Mommy, get the leaf off! Mommy – leaf, leaf!” These may drop by the thousands in every other part of the country, but not here.
Fall is on its way, indeed.
Yup, ALL the leaves are all sorts of purdy colors up here in New England 🙂
I’m jealous! I mean, I’ll be less jealous when the snow sets in, but for now, I’m jealous. 🙂
