When I was little, my mom used to take us to a park near our house on the weekends. We would spend all day there on Saturday and want to go back the very next day. My sister and I would beg her to go back. We loved the outdoors and the ability to run off some energy, but most of all we loved the ice cream truck that would stop right by the playground each afternoon. I have such fond memories of that park ice cream truck, and to this day, I can’t resist them. If I hear an ice cream truck, I feel compelled to find it, and that was never more true than when I was pregnant with Greenleigh.
It was very early in my first trimester (way before the morning sickness kicked in), when we decided to head down to the Keys for the weekend to celebrate a friend’s birthday. There was a large group of us, and one of the other girls was pregnant and due 4 months before I was. We had just checked in at the hotel when I heard an ice cream truck. You know, that really annoying music that they play? Yep. Heard it. Needed ice cream. Ahem, the baby needed ice cream. And so it began, the search for where the music was coming from…a search which soon involved my husband, the hotel owner, and other hotel guests. I almost got in the car to hunt it down. For real. After 10 minutes, the search ended with 2 pregnant women standing on the side of the Overseas Highway flagging down the ice cream truck and luring directing him into the parking lot of our hotel. Oh, if only I were kidding. But I still remember how good that ice cream tasted to this day. Totally worth it.
Naturally, I can’t always drop everything to hunt down an ice cream truck, so I’ll happily settle for this as a good way to end a hectic day:Conveniently located right in my freezer. No searching needed.
