Picking up the girls after a long day at the office is no doubt my favorite part of the day, but a close second is walking our dog, Madison, right when I get home from work. It’s a time to get some exercise, breathe some fresh air, and leave whatever may have happened at work behind. As much as I miss the girls during the day, and as much as Greenleigh wants to join me on these walks, I kind of need this time to decompress. In a way, it allows me a clean slate to go into the house and start the chaotic bedtime routine.
It’s summer though, and in South Florida that means that even at 6-7pm, it’s hot, humid, and sticky. It also means there are lots and lots of bugs outside. It seems that every time I come back from a walk, I have a new bug bite. So I can only imagine that they are getting to Madison as well. Sure, I can just spray on a little bug spray, but what about Maddie? She needs to be protected against the bugs too. Thankfully, the nice people at VetDepot agreed to send me some K9 Advantix II to test out.
K9 Advantix II protects dogs against fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, biting flies, and lice. It even kills flea larvae and flea eggs. Apply it once a month and your dog is protected against all things that bite. And it not only kills mosquitoes, but it repels them for up to 4 weeks. If only I could find a bug spray that would repel mosquitoes for 4 whole weeks. Application is super simple, just put a dab of the liquid in 2-3 different places from the dog’s shoulders to the base of the tail.
I applied Maddie’s K9 Advantix about a week ago and it’s done a wonderful job. Although I’ve returned from walks with bug bites, she hasn’t itched at all. Applying it was easy and the small dabs dried quickly. I also like that it comes with 4 months worth of treatment included, as opposed to our normal flea treatment which only includes 3 tubes. That means I only need to worry about buying the stuff 3 times per year, instead of 4. Anything that saves me time is a winner in my book. But I think my favorite part is that K9 Advantix is available online at VetDepot.com (cheaper than I can find it at my local pet store) and delivered right to my door in days.
I know it’s going to be a long summer ahead, but I’m glad that we have K9 Advantix to help!
I’m going to give you some extra tips for this as well having been your groomer!! The way Advantix and Frontline work is that the wick into the hair folicles and disperses over the dog. Because it’s the oil in the hair folicle that does this these work better on a slightly dirty dog..if you want to bathe your dog before applying wait a couple of days after the bath to apply it. Also we used to hear how they gave their dog a bath and the stuff didn’t work. That’s because they used shampoo meant to strip the oil and dirt off their dog. Many vets will say use baby shampoo because it’s tearless, however, people shampoo is at a different Ph than shampoo for dogs. If you must shampoo your dog within the 4 weeks then use a tearless DOG shampoo, these lack the harsh detergents that strip the oil out of the hair folicle but will still get your pet clean. And one last thing – K9 Advantix ( not Advantage) is TOXIC to cats – if you have a cat, seperate the dog from the cat until it’s dry on the dog.
