This was “The Year”. The year where Hazeline was completely and utterly aware that it was her birthday. It was her special day and she knew it. Unlike last year were we totally skipped presents because she was just too tired, this year she understood that there would be cake and presents and balloons and singing. And she wanted it all. From the moment she woke up yesterday morning to just before she finally conked out for bed, I heard the words, “Because it’s my birthday today. Right, mom?”.
“Yes, honey, it’s your birthday today,” I would reply, only to hear shrieks of delight as if this were news that she was learning for the very first time.
She could barely control her excitement by the time her pink cake with 3 little candles sticking out of it hit the table. She clapped and screeched and carried on as we sang happy birthday. And she was all too happy to tell Greenleigh when she thought she was getting a little too close to her cake.
And after we convinced her that she couldn’t touch the candles, she finally blew them out, all by herself (technically, there might have been a little unsolicited help given by Greenleigh, but I’m not going to tell Hazeline that).
Presents included roller skates (yeah, those are from my mom…I don’t know how they are going to work out), books, and a Princess Anna Frozen doll with matching dress. Needless to say, she loved them all! But let’s hope she gives me a bit more notice as to exactly what she wants for her birthday next year, because after weeks of asking her what she wanted with no response, she decided yesterday morning that she had to have a Princess Anna doll. And considering the DVD release was last week, Frozen merchandise is pretty hard to find. With some help, it was located, wrapped, opened, and loved.
It’s official – Hazeline is THREE. [Insert mommy rambling questioning “where does the time go?” here]
Awe! Happy Birthday Hazeline, I’m so happy you enjoyed your special day!
