Baby Watch 2013 has officially begun! The phone calls, emails, and text messages have started rolling in, but rest assured, I’m still here…and still very pregnant. And with the way my doctor’s appointment went yesterday, it appears my midwife thinks I’m going to stay that way for a while since I’m barely dilated and still measuring a week or two behind. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not in a hurry to meet this little one – in fact, it would be perfect if he wasn’t born until his due date or a day or two after – but I was a bit disappointed when she mentioned scheduling an induction for just after 41 weeks. Forty one weeks? But I’m not supposed to get to that point! And what about all that pressure I’ve been feeling? I swear there are days when I’m pretty sure this kid is going to break my pelvis. I guess we’ll just have to wait and hope (and pray?) for better news this week’s appointment. How far along: 39 weeks & 1 day
This week, baby is the size of a: Watermelon! Okay, technically he’s about the same size as last week, they just picked a different fruit/veggie to keep things interesting. My midwife is estimating that he’ll be in the 6 pound range.
Next appointment: Next Thursday. I’m crossing my fingers that we’ll be meeting him shortly after that.
Total weight gain/loss: I’m up 15 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight, which if you’re keeping track, means I actually lost a pound this week. Must have been the 3 cupcakes that I ate on the way to work on Tuesday.
Maternity clothes: It’s been a busy week at work, so that meant lots of dresses and long skirts – gotta cover the Cankle! In fact, can’t even remember the last time I wore non-maternity clothes or didn’t consider the Cankle when determining my outfit.
Sleep: I’m tired all the time, but I nap better than I sleep at night. It seems I can only sleep about 1-3 hours before waking up, and after that, I often can’t go back to sleep.
Food cravings: Cupcakes! Can’t. Get. Enough.
Food aversions: Red meat. My poor husband keeps suggesting steakhouses for dinners when we go out, but I want nothing to do with them. Hopefully, I’ll go back to my regular carnivorous, red-meat loving self once I have this baby.
Symptoms: No contractions, but tons of pressure. My heartburn has been pretty out of control lately, too. Oh, and suddenly my blood pressure is high, and my midwife is concerned about my swelling. Apparently, I’m supposed to be on the lookout for headaches or problems with my vision, but luckily nothing like that yet.
Movement: Seriously, why is this kid trying to break my pelvis into itty-bitty pieces? I’d actually appreciate the pressure if it meant that I was progressing, but I’m not, so…
What I miss: Getting any place quickly. I’m officially waddling and it’s not pretty.
What I’m loving: Officially being on maternity leave. Today was my last day of work for a little over 3 months – WooHOO! Yes, I know, it will be a very sleep deprived, crazy time, but I’m still pretty excited about not having to head into work on Monday morning (or any day in the near future).
What I’m looking forward to: My massage next week. And lots of naps. It’s going to be a big week.
Best moment this week: My surprise baby shower at work today! We weren’t having any showers for this baby since he’s the third child, so it was kinda nice to get together with friends and celebrate him. Plus, he got some super cute clothes.
Goals: We have all the baby gear that we could possibly need, but it needs to be put together… I mean, what good is a Rock n’ Play if it’s in pieces? And that travel system isn’t going to do us any good if it’s still in the box. Gotta put that stuff together! Oh, and I should probably pack a hospital bag…just in case.
Any other pregnant moms out there? How are you feeling?
Hang in there! It’s almost the end. I hope baby makes an appearance soon.
I wish you the best of luck on a speedy and easy delivery! Hoping that the next post will be full of new baby pics too!
