Typically, I’ve been leaving 5-6 weeks between pregnancy updates, but with an impending due date, I figured it was time to make this a weekly thing. And with only 2 weeks left, there’s lots going on and lots left to be done. Our bassinet is out, diapers & formula are purchased, and new baby items are arriving daily, so our house certainly looks ready for an infant. We might even have a name…but nothing totally confirmed at this point. I’ll get back to you on that one.
How far along: 38 weeks & 0 days
This week, baby is the size of a: Pumpkin! Anywhere from 18.9 to 20.9 inches long and roughly 6 to 9 pounds. According to my midwife, I’m measuring at around 36 weeks though, so she thinks this baby could be on the smaller side. Let’s hope!
Next appointment: Next Thursday. This every week thing is really cramping my style.
Gender: I just finished washing and folding all sorts of little boy clothes, so let’s hope it’s still a boy (as a sidenote – how cute are those ducky jammies?).
Total weight gain/loss: I’m up 16 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight and I’m pretty sure that at least 5 pounds of that is residing in “The Cankle” (if you’re keeping track, that’s a 2 pound increase in The Cankle’s weight since my last update), which my friends now want to see because they’ve read about it here on my blog. Perhaps I under-estimated it’s appeal and circus act qualities? I should start charging.
Exercise: Nope…just…nope.
Maternity clothes: Yes! And I’m trying to wear all of the clothes I love before I can’t wear them again. Yes, I know, I’m weird and actually love some of my maternity clothes. My absolute favorite right now is the dress I’m wearing above from Motherhood. It’s so comfortable, I’m actually thinking about getting the hem altered after this pregnancy so I can keep wearing it.
Sleep: Honestly, not it’s not great. But that probably has more to do with the fact that Hazeline has decided that she hates her room and wakes up hysterically crying at least once a night. Good times.
Food cravings: Brownies. I made an entire tray of them on Monday evening “for my husband”. He might have gotten one. I ate the rest. And this comes right on the heels of my chocolate and Oreo milkshake craving last week. Sweets are apparently where it’s at.
Food aversions: I want nothing to do with red meat, but other than that, I’m friendly with most foods lately. And no nausea, thank goodness.
Symptoms: Lately, everyone asks me if I’m having contractions. The answer is no. Lots of pressure, but no contractions. Even the Braxton Hicks are gone. Weird.
Movement: No kicking, but lots of turning. And more turning. And when you think he couldn’t possibly want to turn again – he does. The midwife even had to chase him around with the doppler to find his heartbeat this week.
What I miss: I’m still missing my ankles.
What I’m loving: It’s starting to look like we’re actually prepared for this baby – the bassinet is out, tiny clothes have been washed and put away, and there’s formula in the kitchen. As a bit of a control freak, there’s something very comforting about having the necessities in the house and in their proper places.
What I’m looking forward to: My maternity leave starts as of 5pm next Friday. WooHOO! Then I just need this baby to stay put until October 3rd…I have lots of stuff to do between my maternity leave starting and his due date.
Best moment this week: New baby stuff is arriving everyday and I absolutely love it! It’s like a baby shower at my doorstep each day. This week alone, my travel system, video monitor, breast pump, sleep sacks, and crib sheets arrived. I don’t need a ton of new stuff, just to replace a few things that have broken or expired. Oh and for my husband’s sanity, we had to do a total “blue” overhaul to prepare for a little boy (hence the new crib sheets and sleep sacks).
Goals: I’d really like to make a baby wreath to hang on the door to announce his arrival. It’s a southern thing, I think. Plus, I just like door wreaths in general. I’ve pinned lots of ideas and even bought the supplies, now I just need to find some extra hours in the day, sit down, and make the wreath. Easy enough, right?
Any other pregnant moms out there? How are you feeling?
Love the update. You’ve done great on the weight gain. I wish I had only gained 16lbs at full term.
