Well hello 3rd Trimester! I can’t believe you’re here already. I’ve officially gotten to the part of pregnancy where I feel like I’m smuggling a beach ball under my shirt, only to forget and be reminded again when I lean over to put on my shoes. I’m out of breath a lot, my energy level is definitely decreasing, and the words “I’m just going to go and lie down for a few minutes” mean I’ll be out cold for 3 hours. My doctor and I started talking about birth plans the last time I saw her (I’ve already signed up for my epidural, so let’s all pray that I can get to the hospital before I’m 8cm – I barely made it there in time with Hazeline) and my appointments will start becoming an every other week sort of event as of August. Since it’s been about a month since my last update, I figured we were due.
How far along: 29 weeks & 4 days
This week, baby is the size of an: Butternut Squash – Approximately 2 1/2 pounds and a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel.
Next appointment: First week of August…unless I failed my 1 hour glucose screening. It’s been a little over a week since I took the screening test, so I’m assuming that no news is good news, but I still panic every time I see an unknown number from my same area code calling. Apparently, the 3 hour test I had to take with Greenleigh left quite an impression. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Gender: Still a boy.
Total weight gain/loss: I’m now up 6 1/2 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight, but even I’ll admit, it looks like a lot more!
Exercise: Remember how I talked about all that swimming I was doing at 25 weeks? Yeah, that’s now been reduced to floating. And that’s about it for exercise, folks. At least I’m getting in the pool?
Maternity clothes: Yes! I don’t even try to fit into my pre-pregnancy stuff anymore. I’m much more comfortable in my maternity clothes so that’s what I’m wearing. My favorite maternity item right now is my pair of maternity jeans from Joe’s Jeans (Pea in the Pod). A bit of a splurge – although I was able to use some rewards dollars on them – but they fit perfect and they are so comfy!
Sleep: Napping is no problem at all, but sleeping at night requires my Boppy wedge pillow. You know what really interferes with sleep? Having to wake up, turn over, and re-wedge yourself to get comfortable. Not awesome. Plus the pillow itself probably looks pretty scandalous to anyone who walks into our bedroom. Our cleaning lady keeps hiding it behind my nightstand. Oh well.
Food cravings: My love for chicken has returned. It was pretty much all I could stomach for the first part of my pregnancy (grilled chicken sandwiches, for the most part), but disappeared for a while. I knew it was back last week when it was all I could think of at seven in the morning. This was my breakfast yesterday – at 10am. Don’t believe me? Check out Hazeline’s pancake in the background.
Food aversions: Peanut butter. This has been pretty true for most of the pregnancy though, which is sad because peanut butter and I go way back. It’s a food group for me.
Symptoms: I’m still pretty sure our furniture might fall through the floor. Oh, and my hearburn now requires prescription medication, but at least the swelling in my feet has decreased (a tiny bit), so that’s good. Pardon the pool picture above, that was not my best foot day.
Movement: I swear, there must be a sign in there that says “This way to the rib cage – it’s fun!” somewhere in side of me because that’s where both my girls loved to hang out. When I found out that I was having a boy I was a bit relieved because I’d always heard you carry them lower. Apparently, not my baby boy. He’s firmly lodged up in my rib cage and spends the remainder of his time leaning on my bladder. I asked Greenleigh if the sign existed and she just laughed, which is proof enough for me. It’s a conspiracy.
What I miss: Sleeping on my back.
What I’m loving: Sometimes you can look at my stomach and be able to tell what side he’s hanging out on. It’s really cool to be able to “see” him. And yes, this is the first and last time you’ll hear me say that I like having a lumpy stomach.
What I’m looking forward to: BlogHer13 in Chicago later this week…no, it’s not pregnancy related, but I’m still looking forward to it!
Best moment this week: Finding out that my blog is a finalist for the 2013 BlogLuxe Awards. I can’t wait for the award ceremony on Thursday! (Again, not pregnancy related, but it still counts, right?)
Goals: Schedule a 3/4D ultrasound. I got one with Greenleigh, but didn’t do it with Hazeline and now I sort of regret it. I’d like to have this done somewhere between 32-34 weeks.
Any other pregnant moms out there? How are you feeling?
Swimming {or floating} is WONDERFUL during pregnancy. My daughter was born in August, and I loved going to the pool to float. My belly felt much lighter. Thanks for the update and enjoy BlogHer!!
Yes, the weightlessness is wonderful! I’m just so comfy in the pool…sometimes I wish I could sleep there. LOL
Tired, sore, Ready And Sleepless…As Evidenced By The Time Of This Post!
Oh, Adriana – sorry to hear it…but on the bright side, you only have a few more weeks left! Hang in there!
Its fun to read updates about other’s pregnancy. I wish I did this when I was still pregnant. Sometimes, I even miss being pregnant because it is like I always look forward to another day as my baby bump grow bigger and bigger. The changes I feel each day is a step closer to seeing my baby. Pregnancy is an exciting stage! But I did not have cravings when I was pregnant. I just eat a lot of ice cream.haha..Is that cravings too?lol
Jenn,
Congratulations! I grew up in Smyrna with Harsinie and Erajh, and Harsinie and I graduated together. I really enjoy reading your blog! I’m 2 days shy of 23 weeks pregnant with our first, a little girl! We are very excited, and I must say, it’s fun to read a fellow mom’s account of all those pregnancy milestones 🙂 I share your heartburn pain! You must reveal your tips on how you’ve only gained 6 1/2 pounds at 29 weeks..that’s impressive! I’m at 7 pounds so far. Really love your shirt in the photo too….good, cute maternity clothes are hard to find! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy…. I’ll be excited to see the news when your baby boy arrives!
Hi Melissa! I’ve actually heard a ton about you (don’t be freaked out, all good things – I promise) from Erajh and his friends. Maybe we even met at a reunion or something? Anyway, thanks for checking out my blog! As for the weight gain, trust me, gain what you need to gain. Don’t worry about the number so much unless it’s a 2 digit number starting with a 7 or 8. I was really sick for the first part of my pregnancy so I dropped a lot of weight. It’s taken me a while to gain it all back and be on the plus side, and I still need to use my nausea meds sometimes. With my other 2 pregnancies, I gained the most in the 3rd trimester, so I expect it will be the same this time around too (I gained 20 & 25 pounds with my last pregnancies)…especially in the last few weeks. We’ll see. And my number one piece of advice would be to invest in a few nice pieces of maternity clothing – that striped shirt & jeans are from Pea in a Pod. The shirt was only $24, but I paid a pretty penny for the jeans. I don’t regret it either. They are so soft and so comfy, they’re pretty much the only thing I want to wear. Secret belly or not, I’m wearing those puppies well into postpartum!
Haha! I too loved that lumpy stomach! You look GREAT!
Thanks Lindsey!
