January can be a very “blah” month; there’s not much to celebrate and it’s still too early to put up your Valentine’s Day decorations. But I wanted to put up a wreath this year…after all, I have that nail on the door of our new house that makes me feel guilty when it’s empty. So I decided to do a winter themed wreath. A little silly because it’s consistently been 80+ degrees here, but I thought it would spruce up our front door a bit.
When I think winter I think bright white, so that’s where I started with this wreath. I bought a spool of white tulle and decided perk it up with a little sparkle. This is the result:
I absolutely love it! I’ll probably be a little sad when I take it down in a couple of weeks to make room for my Valentine’s Day Wreath (i.e. The Pinterest Project from Hell). But the best thing about this wreath is that it can be used to decorate for the holidays and then stay up until February, so it will get a lot of use.
To make this wreath you will need:
14″ foam wreath form
8.5″ x 50 yard spool of white tulle
White ribbon
Silver Ribbon (mine was glitter, wired ribbon, but any will work)
Straight pins
Hot glue
Bunches of fake flowers
Scissors
Step 1 – Wrap foam wreath form with white ribbon and secure at the ends with straight pins.
Step 2 – Cut the tulle into 12″ strips. Tie the strips around the wreath, using double knots. Make sure to use plenty of tulle and that the wreath is full. I used the entire spool.
Step 3 – Remove the flowers from the bunch/stem, cutting them down so the back is as flat as possible. Lay the flower down on the wreath, arrange them in a cluster, and secure with hot glue.
Step 4 – Decide where you want the top of your wreath to be. Tie the silver ribbon around the wreath and tie a bow at the top so you can hang it.
Never mind the 80 degree weather – it’s winter at my house!
(A few of the pictures make the wreath look a little blue, but it’s just the lighting. It appears my front door never gets direct sunlight, which means I can’t get a great picture of its bright white, winter color. Oh well.)
Great job! It’s very pretty! Love it : )
It is beautiful – but how in the world do you have time? I’m sitting here thinking – I am reading this blog about this woman and her kids – and she is making beautiful wreaths for the front door of her new house.
I must be missing something. Maybe 14 more hours in the day. Sheesh.
Ha! I always feel like I need at least another 2 hours per day. At least.
Luckily, this wreath is pretty easy to make and doesn’t take much time. I normally have about 2 hours after the girls go to sleep (from 9pm – 11pm)…it’s too late to do the things I’d like to do, like get my hair done, run to Target, or even do my grocery shopping (okay, technically I could do my grocery shopping since our store is open until 11, but really, I have no desire to be grocery shopping that late) but it’s the perfect time to craft. So I do. This wreath doesn’t require too much skill or attention, so I was able to complete almost the entire thing while catching up on my DVR. It’s actually taking the time to write the blog post that I struggle to find. Sometimes I blog about my crafts and sometimes I don’t, just because I don’t have the time to.
This is so adorable! I love tulle and we could use this for quite some time in WNY!
