Ahhh…Little girls and dress up. It’s one of the things that I’ve been excited about since the technician said the words, “It’s a girl” at our big ultrasound (twice). So many possibilities – costumes, dresses, shoes, crowns, wings, and wands. And while I’m not looking forward to the ridiculously hot South Florida summer, I am planning on dress up being a big part of our indoor activities. The girls (especially Greenleigh who seems to have become much more of a girly-girl lately) are going to love it. They get to wear pretty costumes and use their imagination; I get to stay out of the heat and sun. It’s a win, win if you ask me. So when CostumeDiscounters.com offered to let me review a costume, I figured this was a perfect opportunity to grow our dress up collection.
When I first checked out the Costume Discounter’s website, I was overwhelmed by the number of choices they had for kids, toddlers, and babies. There were just so many to choose from. The costumes are separated into categories, but I headed immediately for the “Disney” category, because let’s face it, that’s where I was going to end up. In looking through the costumes, I couldn’t help but notice how reasonably priced they were, with several popular costumes at clearance prices. As a mom who has lamented over costumes and combed the internet for the best deal, I think their prices are the lowest that I’ve ever seen.
We opted to review the Sleeping Beauty costume, because Greenleigh has been excited about all things princess for a while now. Why fight it? I’m just going to embrace it. And it was a good choice too, because the second that Greenleigh laid eyes on her costume, she wanted to put it on. Unfortunately we were on our way out the door when it arrived so she couldn’t wear it at that particular moment, which in princess fashion, resulted in a tantrum. I did promise that she could wear it later that day and that seemed to put her concerns at ease.
Good quality kids costumes can be hard to find, but the costume we received from Costume Discounters didn’t disappoint. The satin skirt was perfect and smooth, the velveteen of the bodice was beautiful, and the sheer overlay provided just the perfect amount of detail. The ribbon tie waist allows this costume to look perfectly fitted on any child, even my skinny-minnie. And unlike so many other princess costumes that I’ve seen, this one comes with a crown included, saving you money because when you find out what some of those other costume companies charge for crowns alone, you might want to fall into a deep sleep yourself. I think the crown was Greenleigh’s favorite part of this costume since it had an accent of pink.
If these pictures look a little staged, it’s because they are. The second I finished putting on her crown, she demanded that I take her picture. Outside. In a very specific location. And we had to move more than once. Oh my, how quickly that princess mentality kicks in.Finally, I convinced her to come inside. After playing a little while longer, and in typical Sleeping Beauty fashion, she decided to take a nap.
At the end of the day, we had a pretty lengthy negotiation to actually get her out of the dress – She agreed to part with it for the day, if she could wear it to Mickey’s House (a.k.a. Disney World) this weekend. I agreed, and this costume was added to the insane pile of things that’s coming with us to Orlando this weekend. I can’t wait for her to wear this on Saturday! Maybe we’ll even get a picture of her with Sleeping Beauty?!
